Fairbanks Unions To Celebrate 40th Annual Labor Day Parade

Fairbanks Unions to Celebrate 40th Annual Labor Day Parade

A History of Fairbanks' Labor Day Parade

The Fairbanks Labor Day Parade is a time-honored tradition that has been celebrated for 40 years. The first parade was held in 1983, and since then it has grown into one of the largest events of its kind in Alaska. The parade is organized by the Fairbanks Central Labor Council, which represents over 20,000 union members in the area. Proceeds from the parade help to fund the council's programs and services, which support working families in Fairbanks.

Union Members to Gather

This year's parade will be held on Monday, September 4, 2023, and will step off at 10:00 AM from the corner of 5th Avenue and Cushman Street. The parade route will proceed down 5th Avenue to Barnette Street, then turn left onto Barnette Street and end at the Carlson Center. Over 100 entries are expected to participate in the parade, including union members, labor leaders, elected officials, and community groups.

The parade is a family-friendly event, and spectators are encouraged to come out and show their support for Fairbanks' unions. There will be food vendors, live music, and other activities for all to enjoy.
